This week, I talked with my friend Christy Harrison, host of Food Psych and Rethinking Wellness, about becoming a mom for the second time. When I'm in the midst of a big change, I often go to her for advice. I also asked about another kind of comeback I’ve been wanting to cover in this series: eating disorder recovery. As a registered dietitian specializing in disordered eating and the author of two books on diet and wellness culture, Christy was the perfect person to talk to about it.
This week, I talked with my friend Christy Harrison, host of Food Psych and Rethinking Wellness, about becoming a mom for the second time. When I'm in the midst of a big change, I often go to her for advice. I've had the privilege of watching her evolve in her career and life with a level of poise I endlessly admire.
We talked about how both experiences of motherhood changed her relationship with ambition, why there's no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to timelines and fertility, or how to return to work after a major life change. We also covered leaving social media, living with more nuance, and another kind of comeback—an ongoing one in my own life: eating disorder recovery.
As a registered dietitian and the author of Anti-Diet and The Wellness Trap, Christy is especially knowledgeable about this topic, so I loved getting to hear her take on recovery as a comeback to ourselves.
